One time while walking around Somerville I found an old chair that had this really cool tag where each letter was built out of smaller versions of that letter. I was such a fan I wanted to recreate a way to write like that myself. That's where this web toy comes from.

I was taking an electronics course at the time and figured the easiest representation would be the binary representation that 10-digit LEDs use. This is how all of the characters are encoded and this is then used as a big lookup table.
