Covid Good News by the Numbers developed as a separate project from Covid Good News when we started wanting to explore more quantitative descriptions of trends as opposed to the qualitative stories we had been focusing on before. To this end, I got a grant from the Tisch College at Tufts to take this on as a summer project. As it developed, I would try and find new ways to visually explain some of the weirder things that were going on in a world experiencing a pandemic. With these visualizations I was hoping to go beyond the often cold, sterile portals we would flock to. As such, a lot of what I showcased were the weirder side effects like how different countries and cultures were responding psychologically as inferred by Twitter sentiment analysis, what being a fan of zombie movies meant in terms of how prepared you were when Covid hit, why McDonalds cut 2/3 of its menu, etc. etc.
